You know, Nottingham really isn’t so far from Sheffield. True, you have Chav Centrals like Worksop, Mansfield and Chesterfield to negotiate before you get to it, but providing you don’t stray into Doncaster, you may well end up running about naked in Sheffield Botanical Gardens and knocking back Buds with Richard Hawley at the Leadmill not so long after you make it out of Broadmarsh Bus depot. Not that these four lads need go to Sheffield to mix it up with Richard Hawley. In fact they’re fresh from supporting the scurvy old crooner at sold-out London Shepherds Bush Empire show. And though he might have been robbed at those Mercury Music Awards, he’s safe with these young hoodies from Sherwood – as handsome new single, ‘Nothing Comes Close’ attests. It’s not noisy, it’s not rude and it’s not likely to leave with you with a bloody nose and a blow to your self-respect. It’s lilting, it’s shuffling and it’s available through Bespoke Records on August 14th 2006. The limited 7” & download only single also features the track ‘Peace Be With You’.
The band who received Zane Lowe’s Public Vote recently, got guitarist Steve Mason to radio in their coordinates. Right here. Right now (almost). Where are you now? What can you see?
In my living room gazing at my laptop, fiddling about with stuff for our next single.
What was the last thing you ate? Raw salmon, tuna and crab packaged as sushi.
What was the last album you bought?
The Raconteurs’ ‘Long Player’. I love the way Jack, Brendan and Joe Jackson write songs together.
What was the last movie you saw?
Pirates of The Caribbean starring Keef Richard as Jack Sparrow.
What are you most looking forward to?
Playing big ole barns with my three chums known collectively as the Fires.
What do you hate right now?
Hate is a very strong word. The trait of tardiness is a huge dislike of mine and waiting for someone who is late makes me feel anxious!!
What was the last thing you saw that you liked on TV?
Errr..hate to say it but it has to be ‘Love Island’ for comedy value!
Where or how do you feel most comfortable?
Making records at home.
What would you class as your most defining moment?
Leaving the womb.
What are your plans for tonight?
5km run followed by 2 hours of mud wrestling, a spot of laters…then bed.
