Whilst Feargal Sharkey awaits David Cameron’s decision on awarding the ugly ol’ pug a life peerage in the House of Lords in recognition for his services to music (retiring prematurely in 1991) his former Derry band mates, The Undertones are set to celebrate their 35th anniversary with a new double CD of their greatest ‘A’ and ‘B’ sides; a 10-date UK tour when they will play their debut album, ‘The Undertones’, in its entirety – and an appeal for members of their original fan club to get in touch.
Union Square Music will reissue the double CD ‘True Confessions: A's + B's’ on 4th April, 2011. The release is to be accompanied by a set of 10 shows – the ‘True Confessions Tour’ – which will call at most major cities over the month. It’s been a long road from their first show in February 1976 at St Mary’s Scout Hall in Derry. Further shows in the UK, Europe and the USA will be announced soon.
The band is keen to ‘touch base’ with members of their former fan club, the Rocking Humdingers Club, and have put out a Missing Persons Search. Mickey Bradley of the band said: ‘‘We recently came across the original membership book containing the names of the Rocking Humdingers and thought it would be good to make contact again.”
The band hope to hear from these long-time fans and has promised the first 50 who get in touch free entry into a show of their choice, a copy of the record and a tour t-shirt.
